Credit Card/Debit Card Safety and Security Guide

Announcement

Dear Valued Customers,

Staying Safe in an Increasingly Digital World

At Alliance Bank, your financial security is at the heart of everything we do. As banking becomes more digital and convenient, fraudsters are also becoming more sophisticated in their tactics.

Protecting yourself does not require technical expertise but it does require awareness, vigilance, and good habits. This guide shares practical steps you can take to safeguard your credit card and personal information.

Stay Alert: Monitor Your Account

Regular monitoring is one of the most effective ways to detect fraud early and minimize potential losses.

Make it a habit to:

  • Check your transaction alerts immediately
  • Review your account balances regularly
  • Examine your monthly statements carefully and frequently
If you notice any unrecognized transaction (even if it appears small), error, or discrepancy, report it to the Bank immediately.

Understanding Common Scams

Financial scams today are increasingly sophisticated and designed to appear legitimate. Common types include:

  • Phishing scams - fraudulent emails or messages directing you to fake websites
  • Phone scams (vishing) - phone calls impersonating bank staff or authorities
  • Card skimming - devices capturing card details at ATMs or terminals
  • Identity theft - misuse of personal information for fraudulent transactions
These scams often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into acting quickly. Always pause, assess, and verify before responding.

Verify Before You Act: Protecting Yourself from Fake Communications

It is important to verify all communications related to your finances.

Alliance Bank will never ask for your One-Time Password (OTP), PIN, or password via phone, SMS, or email. Always verify the authenticity of messages sent by the Bank.

If you receive a suspicious message:

  • Do not click any links
  • Do not provide sensitive information
  • Contact us directly via official channels
If you suspect a message is fraudulent, take immediate steps to report to the Bank.

Your Information is Your Responsibility: Keep It Secure

Your banking credentials should always remain private.

Never share:

  • OTPs
  • PINs or passwords
  • Credit card / debit card details (except to facilitate payment and purchase authorization or to provision the credit/debit card on a mobile wallet)
  • Personal identification information unless verified
Do not:

  • record or write down your PIN or security credentials on your card, or on anything kept in close proximity to the cards
  • use easy-to-guess PIN or security credentials, that is predictable and can be easily associated with you such as birth date, identity card, passport, driving license or contact number
  • allow others to use your card and PIN
Use Banking Services Safely

  • Always access Alliance Bank services by typing the official website address directly into your browser
  • Ensure you are on a secure site before entering any information
  • Before providing any confidential information, ensure you have read and understood the Bank’s security guidance, warnings, and privacy policy available on our website or mobile application
  • Keep your contact details (including your mobile number) up to date at all times so that you can receive important alerts and security notifications promptly
  • Keep your security device secure at all times
  • Use your card responsibly and avoid unlawful use
Safe Digital Banking Practices: Building Strong Habits

When banking online or via mobile apps:

  • Avoid using public or unsecured Wi-Fi networks
  • Ensure the website displays a secure connection (padlock icon)
  • Keep your devices updated with the latest security patches
  • Log out after completing your session
  • Download mobile applications from official app stores, such as Google Play Store, Apple App Store & Huawei AppGallery only
  • Make it a habit to regularly update your device’s operating system to the latest version
  • Consider installing antivirus and anti-malware software on your device
  • Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading Android Package Kit (APK) files from untrusted resources
These simple habits significantly reduce your exposure to fraud risks.
