At Alliance Bank, we know how important it is to cultivate good financial habits in young children which will lead them to making smart financial decisions early in life. This will positively improve the children’s life quality and sustainability of life in their adulthood, and lead to long term financial goals.

In line with Bank Negara Malaysia (“BNM”) and Ministry of Education (“MOE”) goals, Alliance Bank had taken the initiative to craft and organise the AEIOU Challenge in 2015, Malaysia’s first comic strip challenge that focuses on financial literacy for children in primary 4 to 6 nationwide.

The AEIOU Challenge Season 1 in year 2015 and Season 2 in year 2016 have been an amazing journey with Alliance Bank bringing interactive sessions to selected schools nationwide. This has not only resulted in the overwhelming and encouraging participations from the students with over 13,500 comic submissions and outreaching more than 190,000 students, the students too have started to apply and practice the smart financial habits learned through all the live interactive sessions in schools.

Based on its successful 2015 and 2016 run, the AEIOU Financial Comic Strip Challenge 3 is making a return this year. Aimed at educating children aged between 9 to 12 years old on financial literacy via comic, the AEIOU Challenge 3 is opened to public and all 7,772 primary schools nationwide are welcomed to send in their entries.

This year, Alliance Bank intends to tap into children’s creativity and their ability to translate lessons learned into artwork. Children participating in the AEIOU Challenge 3 will be tested on a deeper level of understanding of financial literacy by creating an 8-page comic booklet with a front cover and narrating stories reflecting the theme of “Smart Financial Habits”. Teachers are encouraged to teach and help students understand about the smart financial habits through the eight comic strip series (Episode 1 to 8) and guide them on how to participate in the Challenge by using the video tutorials. Teachers may get the comic strip series and video tutorials which are made available below.
  1. Stage 1 – Students will be educated on smart financial habits, and will be provided with a step-by-step guide on how to participate in the Challenge through the AEIOU school roadshows or microsite. Students may then submit their comic booklets through their school teachers or by mail.
