Building a Great Workplace

Here at Alliance, we realise that our employees are the most valuable asset that contribute to our success. Thus, we work hard to provide a conducive working environment for our employees as well as developing and nurturing talents within the Bank. This development is vital to our goal of being Malaysia’s Best Customer Service Bank.

The Bank was moved from the 78th position in 2013 to the 29th ranking in 2014, on the roster of Malaysia’s 100 Leading Graduate Employers. We were recognised for our commitment in developing and nurturing the next generation of professional bankers due to our various ongoing initiatives which includes the Management Trainee Programme, the Alliance Customer Excellence (ACE), Alliance Bank Leadership Excellence (ABLE) and the Alliance Bank Competency (ABC) Framework.

Our success was also due to the reorganisation of the hiring process which focuses more on their personalities and emphasises on their skills. We also managed to increase our reach and visibility by participating in career fairs and talks at universities in the country.

In addition to the ongoing training modules such as e-learning, on-the-job-training and knowledge exchange programmes, emphasis was also given to a few other programmes. The G.R.E.A.T @ Alliance Bank Programme is one of the new initiatives which are designed to enhance the selling and serving skills of staff that deal with customers face-to-face.

Apart from that, Capacity Building was also incorporated in inter-departmental and intra-departmental exchange programmes to encourage growth within our staff. The Bank initiated the Talent Management and Development Framework to identify, groom, grow and nurture home grown talent for positions of leadership within the organisation in the future. The identified staff were given the opportunity to attend exclusive leadership programmes to increase their leadership skills. This helped to ensure that the Bank has an adequate talent pool for succession and business continuity purposes.

Launch of Alliance Managerial Programme 2015

We believe that the foundation of exceptional customer service is built from highly motivated employees. Thus, we actively seek feedback through Group Employee Surveys and engage in our employees in order to understand how we can better improve their job performance and career satisfaction.

Our efforts have also led to significant improvements across several employee satisfaction dimensions over a two-year period, in communications, organisational image, competitive position, career development, training and leadership. Due to this, our employee engagement index has been improving steadily for the past three years.

With the aim to educate staff within the workplace on various topics that would help with their well-being, the Bank have planned several sessions under the Alliance Chatroom. The first Alliance Chatroom - Parenting in the Digital Era generated very good response and took off with a great start with more than 70 registered staff. Associate Professor Dr. Alvin Ng Lai Onn, an expert in the field of psychology from Sunway University who conducted the session, brought laughter to the staff and had them ask many questions about their parenting style.

Staff were enlightened with Dr. Alvin’s shared ideas on psychological theories that can be applied in everyday parenting and learned how to make use of the digital media and technology with children. He explained on how to manage children’s behaviour and ways to increase good behaviours and reduce bad behaviours. Dr. Alvin also provided tips for staff to use basic adaptive skills to modify behaviours in children and away from dysfunction and distress.

The session enabled staff to learn various adaptive skills such as communication, living and motor skills that can be applied to children. The dynamic and humorous Dr. Alvin acted different scenarios of parent and child and showed examples of how to resolve issues and shape the child in a healthy way.

As part of the Bank's Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives, we invited the children from Yayasan Sunbeams Home to share "The Spirit of Christmas" with Alliance staff at the Menara Multi-Purpose lobby on 9 December 2016.

The children carolled spirited songs such as "Joy to the World", "Silent Night" and "Feliz Navidad". The Christmas spirit of love, joy, peace, hope and salvation for mankind was clearly echoed and a few staff even joined in the carols! We also helped the Home raise more than RM1,000 that day by promoting their handmade greeting cards, mugs and other products, before being treated to a sumptuous lunch.
